7/8/2012 Broccoli Leaves?Yes broccoli, after picking and cleaning some great broccoli crowns this morning for the Farmstand there was a the usual compost waste. While admiring the first broccoli of the year it was the compost greens that got me hungery and before I knew it they were in a pan with onions and butter sweating away. Maybe I was just hungry but broccoli greens now have a new home next to the kale in my fridge.
4/29/2012 The Asparagus are in!Three years ago we planted asparagus. They are planted as a root ball, and through that first summer as they grew into leafy fern like plants we kept covering them with mulch. We waited and watched them for three seasons go through their growing cycle. Finally this year we were able to harvest the asparagus! When Jay runs out to take care of the chickens and ducks he takes a nippers with him and goes to the asparagus bed to see what has grown overnight!
