11/3/2013 Aquaponics Fodder SystemI built a quick fodder system out of some spare parts laying around the farm. The greenhouse sits mostly empty until March so we decided to grow winter rye and barley for the chickens, sheep, pig and goats. We buy organic feed $$$, so for... the same cost of one bag of feed we should get about 4 times the pounds of feed from this set up. I will update with the finished product this week, it still needs a third shelf and the rest of the trays. Here are a few more images.

This is very interesting to me. I have 5 chickens and 8 adult rabbits (and little rabbits at times). I currently feed fodder to them all. My daily harvest if a 10x20 tray at just over 5 lbs. I am planning a aquaponics system to go into my greenhouse. This looks right size for me. One question. Do you have this setup on a timer? If so, can you tell me more about that control?

Unfortunately it did not work out so good. The major problem was the greenhouse, it was way to warm it there "80's". The second was the sun drying out the barley to fast. We have built a new one in the basement al plumbed into the house. The basement holds the temp at about 60-65 deg., we will use a fan for air circulation and a pair of led lights. I will post the new setup in the fall when we get in up and running. Comments are closed.
