4/4/2015 Easter LambsThree baby lambs just in time for Easter! All three lambs were born during the day time hours, which was nice for us- we were able to get our beauty sleep! Listening ever attentively to the baby monitor, we were able to be present for two out of the three births.
The first baby lamb pictured above was born uneventfully, stood up within moments and had a hang of nursing right away! The second baby was born in the fields, while we were away from the farm for an hour and our one year old Pyrenees dog, Hughy tried to help out by giving it a vigorous tongue bath that unfortunately led to some chewing- hence the trip to the vet in the plastic crate. The little black lamb will be fine, but is going to look a little bit funny with missing ears! We feel terrible, but the vet reassured us by saying, "That's life on a farm with lots of animals". The third baby lamb started to be born breech, but Jason (our resident lambing expert!) saved both Old Momma and the new baby lamb by quickly intervening. Never a dull moment here on the farm! All three baby lambs and their mommas will stay inside in the safety and warmth of the barn for a while, and then will venture out into the fields with the other three one year olds. Once they get their first taste of the outside world, we will be sure to post a video to showcase their antics, running and hopping around! Happy Easter from our expanded family to yours!
