Seedling Transplantation

Our seedlings grew in record time this year! Our new indoor greenhouse and the floating tray method worked their magic! We have started to transplant the baby seedlings from the floating foam tray to the newspaper cups that we described in last weeks blog.

The picture on the left shows one of our baby tomato plants, look at the root system that has already started to grow! Incredible! The seedling already as its second set of real leaves. The picture on the right is a tray of our planted seedling tomatoes.

To transplant our seedlings, we used an organic seedling soil mixed with some composted horse manure. We thoroughly soaked the soil, due to its high level of peat moss, and mixed it with the horse manure in the wheel barrow as pictured. We then spooned it into the newspaper cups and we were ready for seedling transplanting!

So far we have transplanted our tomatoes and eggplants. Next up, peppers, celeriac root and kale.
