6/28/2011 The Early Bird gets the WormI tried to wake up before the chickens this morning so that I could turn on their light, in hopes of increasing their egg production. The window in their home faces west, so they don't get the morning sunshine to stimulate egg production. So, I am awake thinking about this at about 3am this morning. I come downstairs, and look outside, and it is really too dark at 3am to brave going out into the yard all the way to the chicken coop, so I lay down on the couch, expecting to catch up on emails, surf the web and face book, and then, I fall asleep! You probably already guessed that that happened. I awake to the sounds of Charlotte the cat meowing outside the front door, it is a bright 6am, and I have missed my chance to awaken before the chickens. I run (ok, walk slowly, it is early, and I haven't had a cup of coffee yet!) to the chicken coop, and all of the ladies (and 2 gentlemen- yes, we have 2 baby roosters!) are already awake and think that I am going to get them food. They follow me into the chicken coop when I promptly turn on their light, they give me a weird look and then run outside again. I can't win. Perhaps the light will help anyway, but, I am not counting on it! Perhaps tomorrow I won't be a chicken and just go out in the middle of the night!
