Lemongrass

Another new herb which will make its debut in our products this year is Lemongrass. Lemongrass is a tall grass which is grown in tropical countries. Although it is not something we can grow on the farm, we love its citrus fragrance and flavor and its herbal healing properties, so have decided to add it to our homegrown sage for a new scent for our bath and body products!

Lemongrass as an essential oil is analgesic, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal and has been used as an insect repellant against ticks, mosquitos and as a treatment for acne. Lemongrass can be added to coconut oil and used as a liniment for back pains, sprains and other body aches. When combined with one of our favorite herbs, lavender, lemongrass can revitalize the body and relieve symptoms of anxiety, stress and headaches. Lemongrass has also been used as an herbal medicine for gastrointestinal problems such as stomachaches, diarrhea, gas, bowel spasms, vomiting and has been used to combat the flu, fever and headaches.

Lemongrass makes an excellent healing herbal tea: One cup every 8 hours. The tea is prepared by boiling about 10 leaves in 2 cups of water, adding sugar to taste and a slice of ginger. We will be blending lemongrass to make herbal teas as an offering in the farm store this year.

We will also be adding organic lemongrass to our own organic homegrown sage for a new scent in our salt scrubs. We will be utilizing the best essential oils in our body products to bring you this new scent of lemongrass sage- our linen spray, bar soap and hand soap will be bright and citrus smelling- an invigorating, yet relaxing combination is a welcome addition to the Farm Store! Enjoy the healing powers of Lemongrass!
